In this project, we carried out a ground floor conversion, transforming the entire space with structural changes, new flooring, underfloor heating, and a complete kitchen and living area redesign.
Project Phases
The project was completed in two phases:
- Phase 1: Velux windows were installed in the conservatory.
- Phase 2: The ground floor was opened up and renovated, including the removal of walls, partial conversion of the garage into a playroom, and extensive structural modifications.

Structural Modifications
As part of the ground floor conversion, several key structural changes were made:
- A large steel beam was installed after wall removal, requiring foundation reinforcement (underpinning).
- The floor was insulated, and wet underfloor heating was installed. The floor level was then evened out using self-leveling compound.

The garage was partially converted into a playroom, and the remaining section retained its original function. The asbestos ceiling in the garage was professionally removed.
Flooring and Underfloor Heating
The entire ground floor was finished with tile flooring:
- Large 120×60 cm tiles were laid in the kitchen and dining area, with 2mm grout lines.
- Wood-effect tiles were used in the hallway and boot room.

The wet underfloor heating system was divided into two zones: the boot room as the colder zone and the main living area as the warmer zone.
Kitchen and Dining Area
The main focus of the ground floor conversion was the kitchen and dining area:
- A Howdens kitchen was installed in a stylish dark blue, traditional Shaker style, featuring marble worktops and artificial stone finishes.
- A large island was created with a marble countertop, while the rest of the kitchen featured artificial stone surfaces.
- Appliances such as the hob, oven, wine cooler, dishwasher, and a large American-style fridge freezer with an ice maker were installed.

Open-Plan Living Space
The kitchen, dining area, and conservatory were opened up into one large space as part of the ground floor conversion:
- A large double door was installed between the new kitchen and the hallway, enhancing the open-plan feel.
- Full-width, 5.5-meter bi-fold doors were fitted in the conservatory, supported by a steel beam.

Final Touches and Custom Joinery
To complete the ground floor conversion, the following elements were added:
- Custom furniture was built in the hallway for storing clothes and shoes.
- Electrical work was carried out, including spotlights, pendant lights over the kitchen island, and wiring for all kitchen appliances.
- A full heating system upgrade was done, including a new boiler, radiator replacements throughout the house, and the zoned underfloor heating.

Finishing touches included plasterboarding, skimming, painting, and flooring installation across all areas.
